  • Nearly 70% of US households own one or more pets, and studies show pets can make people happier and healthier.
  • Pets—whether covered in fur, feathers, or scales—come with many benefits to people, but they can also carry germs that make people sick. These germs can sometimes result in outbreaks.
  • Healthcare providers, veterinarians, and pet care businesses can encourage the community to take simple steps like handwashing and safely cleaning up after pets tohelp keep people and pets healthy.
